If your wedding personality is more about breaking with tradition than saccharine frou and froth, then have we found an engagement ring for you. British jewelry designer Solange Azagury-Partidge’s debut bridal collection, Tough Love, offers brides-to-be a macabre version of marital bliss.
With more than two decades of design experience under her belt — including cutting her teeth as creative director for Boucheron — as well as a permanent collection at London’s Victoria & Albert Museum, Azagury-Partridge has established herself as the go-to designer for edgy, tongue-in-chic designs. The new range offers a similar sensibility, from the darkly eclectic (try the ‘Bones’ ring), to the flat out hilarious (the ‘Ball Crusher’ anyone?). And for those more traditional types, there’s the standard solitaire — of course with oversized prongs-cum-claws. “It’s not just the romance, and it’s not just the diamonds,” the designer sums up of her take on marriage.
By adding pavé finishes, knock out diamonds, and the more whimsical onyx and enamel, Azagury-Partridge has turned what’s expected on its head — complete with a thrashing of smarts. Ranging in price from the accessible $1,500 to the palatial $226,000, there’s a bijoux sure to meet your budget.
“You shouldn’t mess around too much with wedding rings,” she says. “It’s with the engagement rings that you have more fun.”
