I Now Pronounce You...
It's tradition to wear white or a variation to walk down the aisle, but if you scoff at the ho-hum and think the usual is too plain Jane, add a splash of colour—and we’re not talking a blue sash or some funky red shoes. To stand out on your big day in a dress that’s truly unique, go all out in a head-to-toe hue.
Some brides will go the extremely girly route and reach for a shade of pink—like Jessica Biel, who opted for a candy-coloured Giambattista Valli Haute Couture gown to wed heartthrob Justin Timberlake, or Reese Witherspoon, who chose blush Monique Lhuillier for her wedding to Jim Toth.
While pink is frothy and sweet, an even more daring anti-bridal look is black or red. Love Sarah Jessica Parker’s trendsetting style? Though her alter ego, Carrie Bradshaw, wore a voluminous off-white Vivienne Westwood gown with a bird in her hair to her wedding in the first Sex and the City film, SJP went non-traditional for her own wedding in 1997. When she wed Inspector Gadget himself, Matthew Broderick, the bride wore black.
More recently, Canadian sweetheart Shenae Grimes married musician Josh Beech in black Vera Wang (pictured). Looks like there's a new "traditional" in the works. Click through to see some of our favourite colourful gowns.
