Rumour has it princess-to-be Kate Middleton is set to don a dress designed by Sophie Cranston of the label Libélula. The London-based designer reportedly created a gown, sketched by the bride herself, that is said to be draped in ivory satin with lace and pearl details and a flowing 10-foot train, all in a nod to Middleton’s love of Renaissance art.
Middleton wore Libélula to a friend’s wedding earlier this year. Although the ease and elegance of Cranston’s designs fit with Middleton’s country-estate taste, we think she may don a gown with a bit more grandeur for the big day. This is the first time we’ve heard Cranston’s name attached to the royal commission. For months, big name designers, like Sarah Burton (of Alexander McQueen), Bruce Oldfield and Jasper Conran, have swirled around the royal affair, but the future princess has promised to keep us guessing right up until her debut next Friday.
