What to Do in Toronto: Gracie Carroll's April Picks

Your monthly round-up of everything cool, stylish and fun going down in #the6 from Toronto Localist-at-large Gracie Carroll

1. Make someone’s prom dreams come true
With stacked shoe walls and overflowing closets, it’s easy to forget that there are a lot of people out there who actually don’t have anything to wear for a night out on the town—or even their prom. Here’s your chance to clear out your closet and help a teen in need: New Circles Prom Boutique is hosting a #ProjectProm fundraiser on April 7 from 6-9 at the Design Exchange (234 Bay St.), where you can donate your lightly used dressy clothes and shoes that will be redistributed to teens in the GTA for their big night. Because, let’s face it: whether you loved or hated your prom, picking out your outfit was a major deal!

2. Bag it
Best known for his menswear label, Krane, the modern industrial-inspired fashion designer Ken Chow has recently launched K by Krane, a small collection of waxed cotton tote bags that would please him or her. If I were you, I would snap up one of his vibrant digitally printed new wallets while you’re at it too (from $135).

3. Get glammed
Have you ever wished you could have a beauty professional arrive at your doorstop with just the tap of an app? Well, now you can! Coined the “Uber of beauty services app”, beGlammed has arrived in Canada, starting in Toronto. You can order everything from a blowout to your bridal makeup via the app. With a long list of celebrity fans including Mariah Carey and Whitney Port, the new service is guaranteed to make fans of all of us pretty soon.

4. Celebrate Earth Day with a blowout
Did you know that this month marks the 10th anniversary of Aveda Canada’s partnership with WaterAid? Having already raised more than $3.5 million through their annual Earth Month initiatives, there’s no sign of them slowing down—and now’s your chance to get involved. Register for an appointment at a Civello salon on April 25 and your entire payment will go directly to Water Aid. Can you think of a better excuse to get your hair done just because? I certainly can’t!
