What to Do in Halifax: Ellen Yeung's February Picks

Your monthly round-up of everything cool, stylish and fun going down in Haligonia from Halifax Localist-at-large Ellen Yeung

1. Try These Chocolates (Trust Me)
Why not surprise your bae with a box of chocolates from Rousseau (1277 Hollis St.)—or, better yet, treat yourself! All the sweets at this cute shop are handcrafted with pure cocoa butter and a variety of unique flavours like smokey chili and maple cream. You’ll thank me as soon as you taste them!

2. Book a Table at My Fave Date Spot
My fiancé and I spend most of our date nights over scallop linguine, sausage pesto pizza and affogatos at La Frasca Cibi & Vini (5650 Spring Garden Rd.) The food and drinks are fantastic and the setting is intimate, yet bustling. Finish dinner off with a romantic stroll along the waterfront, and you’re sure to have a perfect date night.

3. Savour the Food & Wine Festival
This year’s Savour Food & Wine Festival runs until March 10—but don’t put off going, because there’s so much to try! My favourite event is Imbibe, where the province’s best mixologists will be creating new and indulgent cocktails along with hors d’oevres—all set to live music.

4. Recharge Your Wardrobe
It’s hard to believe it now, but spring really will be here soon. With that in mind, it’s time to get a head-start on the season by adding a few new pieces to your closet. Enter RCHMND Shop (1876 Hollis St.). They carry a number of hard-to-find brands, like Acne Studios, Common Projects and Y-3, plus the store is just plain pretty to look at.

5) Brush Up on Your Baking Skills
Join Chef Chevallier in one of his decadent pastry classes at Le French Fix Patisserie (5233 Prince St). After learning how to make macarons from the master himself, you might just become the most in-demand person in your friend group.
