Your monthly round-up of everything cool, stylish and fun going down in Haligonia from Halifax Localist-at-large Ellen Yeung

1. Check out the view from the front row
On April 16, the EPOCH fashion show will feature 14 emerging designers from NSCAD (Nova Scotia College of Art & Design)’s Textiles/Fashion Department. Get your tickets now for your chance to check out the runway presentations and gala, meet the designers and mingle with host Jeanne Beker!

2. Pamper yourself
Get dolled up for your weekend festivities with a blowout from one of my favourite spots, Alicia Melanson Salon & Blowdry Bar (1727 Barrington St.). You can go for the standard wash and astyle, but I recommend treating yourself to the optional head massage. They also offer a range of other aesthetic services, including makeup application, so you’ll be good to start your evening as soon as you leave the salon.

3. LOL
Blow off some steam and have a good laugh at the Halifax Comedy Fest, on from April 27-30. The event has been one of the longest-running comedy festivals in Canada, and will take place across 14 stages around the city with over 30 comedians from all over North America.

4. Satisfy your sweet tooth
You need to try these locally baked goodies from Halifax Cookie Cravings! Some of my fave flavours include the Ginger Cinnamon Buttercream, Chocolate Pralin and S’mores. Best part? These guys deliver by bicycle! But if you’ve never tried them, you’ll want to visit their booth at the Halifax Forum Farmer’s Market (2901 Windsor St.) on Saturdays to sample a bit of everything!

5. Get on the mat
Find your inner zen at Halifax’s newest yoga studio, On the Mat (2985 Oxford St.). They offer a range of classes for all levels that won’t scare off yoga newbies like me! They also offer tailored sessions designed to cater to expectant mothers, parent-baby duos, children and businesses.
