A 17-year-old amateur volleyball player from Kazakhstan is getting sports fans hot and bothered, which is only a good thing if you think a gymnasium full of middle-aged men ogling a teenager is a pleasing spectacle to behold.
Sabina Altynbekova, 17, is so attractive that she’s even been deemed a distraction by her coach. “It is impossible to work like this. The crowd behaves like there is only one player at the championship,” said Nurlan Sadikov.
And so do some news media.
After the Kazakh teen competed alongside her teammates during the Asian Championships in Taipei, Taiwan, a local newspaper devoted 10 pages to pictures of Altynbekova.
The fresh-faced teenager has also attracted international attention online. A Youtube video of the teen has been viewed over one million times and there’s a Facebook page (200,000+ likes) and Twitter account (29,000+ followers) devoted to her, too.
One Facebook fan even went so far as to create an anime likeness of Altynbekova.
How does Altynbekova feel about the attention? Wickedly uncomfortable, it seems, and who could blame her. The youngster—she is only 17, gentlemen—told The Bleacher Report that while she was initially flattered, “it’s all getting a little bit much. I want to concentrate on playing volleyball and to be famous for that, not anything else.”
Though we hope she gets her wish, it doesn’t seem likely.
Her Instagram page boasts nearly 270,000 followers and her photos are adorned with declarations of love from fans all over the world and in several different languages.
“Hi, Sabina. I am a fan of you. When will you come to China?” wrote one admirer. His screen name: warlock_stalker.
