As soon as the warm weather hits the True North, we break out our breezy summer dresses, crank up the AC and break out the latest list of must-watch TV shows and movies blessing our queue. To kick things off, here’s a list of everything coming to Amazon Prime Canada in July 2019, like gritty anti-superhero series The Boys (there’s a Spice Girls song in the trailer, so you know we’re sold). Just don’t forget a healthy dose of SPF ’cause this list is red-hot.

What’s coming to Amazon Prime on July 1

Robin Hood

Synopsis: A war-hardened Crusader and his Moorish commander mount an audacious revolt against the corrupt English crown.

Elton John: Becoming Rocketman

Synopsis: 2019 is the year of Elton John, with the release of the box office hit Rocketman, his autobiography and his final farewell tour all eyes are on the musical genius. We take a glimpse into his incredible journey and uncover the truth behind the turbulent and eccentric life of a superstar. Find out what it took for this shy young man to become ‘Rocketman.’

The Patriot

Synopsis: Peaceful farmer Benjamin Martin is driven to lead the Colonial Militia during the American Revolution when a sadistic British officer murders his son.

Point Blank

Synopsis: Convicted corporate criminal Howard engineers a prison break as he and a number of fellow inmates are being transferred to a new facility. The escapees storm a shopping mall and take a group of shoppers hostage (after killing many more of them) before making their demands. Only Rudy, a former mercenary and brother of one of the fugitives, can take out the criminals before more of the hostages die.

Defenseless

Synopsis: A lawyer is hired to defend an old college friend accused of murdering her husband.

The Long Walk Home

Synopsis: In 1955, two women, one Black and one Caucasian, in Montgomery, Alabama, must decide what they are going to do in response to the famous bus boycott lead by Martin Luther King.

Queen’s Logic

Synopsis: When childhood friends Al, Dennis and Eliot get together for Ray’s wedding, which may or may not happen, they end up on a roller-coaster ride through reality. During one tumultuous, crazy weekend, they face adulthood and each other with new found maturity and discover what Queens Logic is all about. This comedy takes a look at friendship, loyalty and love.

Sweet Talker

Synopsis: A smooth-talking con man starts to turn his life around when he falls in love in this family-oriented comedy.

When the Party’s Over

Synopsis: Four housemates try to find love and happiness in Los Angeles—often at the expense of their well-being and friendships. Artist Amanda (Sandra Bullock) is trying to make it on the gallery scene, while aspiring actor Banks (Kris Kamm) attempts to hit it big in Hollywood. Meanwhile, Frankie (Elizabeth Berridge) has an emotionally draining yet rewarding job as a social worker, but would be shattered to know that her roommate M.J. (Rae Dawn Chong) is sleeping with her boyfriend.

Four Days in September

Synopsis: Fernando, a journalist, and his friend César join terrorist group MR8 in order to fight Brazil’s dictatorial regime during the late sixties. Cesare, however, is wounded and captured during a bank hold up. Fernando then decides to kidnap the American ambassador in Brazil and ask for the release of fifteen political prisoners in exchange for his life.

Old Man Who Read Love Stories

Synopsis: A man is forced to confront a dangerous female jaguar and his own past through the sacrificial killing of the beast he has grown to love.

The Spy Who Dumped Me

Synopsis: Audrey (Mila Kunis) and Morgan (Kate McKinnon) are best friends who unwittingly become entangled in an international conspiracy when one of the women discovers the boyfriend who dumped her was actually a spy.

Kung Fu Panda: The Paws of Destiny

Synopsis: As the Dragon Master, Po has endured his fair share of epic challenges but nothing could prepare him for his greatest one yet—as a Kung Fu teacher to a group of rambunctious kids from Panda Village who have been imbued with a mysterious and powerful chi energy. Together they embark on amazing adventures, battle ferocious villains and become legends.

Every Act of Life

Synopsis: The life of Tony-winning playwright Terrence McNally (Master Class, Ragtime): 60 years of groundbreaking plays and musicals, the struggle for LGBT rights, addiction and recovery, finding true love and the relentless pursuit of inspiration.

Matoma: One in a Million

Synopsis: Tom a.k.a. Matoma may not be the biggest superstar DJ in the scene, but this big character from a small Norwegian town is one of the most unique. When he studied music technology it was to become a music teacher, not for aspirations of stardom. His life however was turned upside down when he uploaded remixes online for fun and it generated millions of plays.
