If you had no idea who Doris Burke was on Tuesday, chances are you’ve probs heard her name by now. But just who the hell is this “Doris” who’s won the affections of our beloved? She’s the cute, glasses-wearing NBA sideline reporter with a blonde bob (and more than a passing resemblance to this The Hangover actress) who Drake declared his love for last night the way only The Boy can: with her cartoon likeness on a shirt emblazoned with the words “Woman Crush Everyday.” To our delight, Doris is also a 50-year-old mom of two, not a wisp of a millennial you might expect a celeb of Drake’s status to pursue. Then again, Drake’s last celebrity #WCW was fellow national treasure, 51-year-old country powerhouse Shania Twain, so it looks like Drizzy might have a thing for older ladies.
But it’s not just Doris’ age and adorable soccer mom looks we love—as the first female analyst to call a New York Knicks game on radio and television after a successful college basketball career of her own, Doris is a standard-shattering badass whose unlikely come-up from the youngest of eight children in small-town New Jersey to sideline reporter and colour analyst for NBA on ESPN and NBA on ABC games is nothing short of inspiring. Drake’s well-documented love for his mom (bless) who raised him solo, ultimate queen Rihanna, and now these fine, fine (and ACCOMPLISHED) older women tells us that Drake likes to celebrate strong women and TBH, that makes us love him even more.
In a court-side interview with ESPN reporter Israel Gutierrez, Drake laid the love on thick. “My inspiration is Doris,” Drake said. “I think she’s a stunning woman, incredible at what she does. I wish she was here tonight.”
“Dinner at my house anytime, as long as she comes alone.”
Burke responded thusly and according to Wikipedia, she’s divorced and currently single.
