Breaking Down The Possibilities of Snapchat's New 'Memories' Feature

How this changes your feed. And also how it doesn't.

New app update alert: Snapchat is rolling out a new feature called Memories and you obvs need to know exactly how this changes your feed immediately. Here are 3 things it is, and 4 things it isn’t:

IT IS… a place where you can save your snaps and stories. Basically instead of saving your snaps and stories to your Camera Roll (which, in case you didn’t know, is something you can do already) this saves them within the app. Think of it as an archive of your fave snaps…. that’s not your Camera Roll.

IT IS NOT… accessible by your followers. In other words, your regular snaps will disappear after 24 hours as per usual.

IT IS… slightly more than just an archive. You can now re-share snaps saved in Memories or string together different snaps into a corny montage if that’s what you’re into.

IT IS NOT… a way to save other people’s snaps. Screen grabs are still your best bet for that kind of creeping.

IT IS… searchable. This is a clear one-up on Camera Roll.

IT IS NOT… a way to trick people into thinking your clever old snaps are fresh new ones. Re-snapped snaps will appear in a fancy frame so your friends know it’s not new material.

IT IS NOT… suuuuper game changing but it will be interesting to see how your fave Snapchat personalities incorporate Memories into their feed. Picture Dj Khaled posting v timely flashbacks to previous elliptical talks or especially poignant major key alerts. Kylie Jenner montaging all her fave Kendall cameos? Or (shamless self promo alert) FLARE snapping an inter-office dance-off and reposting the winning video over and over and over? P.S. This is the kind of social media GOLD you’re missing out on. Essentially, the takeaway here is: you should follow us.
