HBO announced that the Big Little Lies soundtrack that we have all been craving is officially happening and we are so here for this.
Michael Kiwanuka’s “Cold Little Heart” has become synonymous with Sunday nights, snuggled on the couch, watching our fave first-grade mom squad (Nicole Kidman as Celeste, Reese Witherspoon as Madeline and Shailene Woodley as Jane) navigate the unruly waters of Monterey’s social scene.

The music in HBO’s Big Little Lies is like the show’s ultra-hip, laid-back, yet sassy AF fourth protagonist.
As Bustle points out, each leading lady has her own soundtrack which recurs throughout the miniseries. Celeste’s soft yet sad nature is set to the tune of “Straight from the Heart” by Irma Thomas while her BFF Madeline’s struggle to find happiness plays out to “This Feeling” by Alabama Shakes. Meanwhile, Jane processes her dark past with aggressive post-jog dance parties to “Bloody Mother F*cking Asshole” by Martha Wainwright.
Viewers have been raving about the hit show’s on-point music selection—specifically bowing down to first grader Chloe, Madeline’s daughter, who quite possibly has the all-time best taste in bedtime songs. (In the last episode, she winds down by dancing to a vid of “Grass is Greener” by St. Paul and The Broken Bones that will warm your dang soul.)
The biggest mystery in Big Little Lies to me isn’t ‘who killed who’ it’s how does a 1st grader have amazing taste in music?

The BIG LITTLE LIES soundtrack makes me want to throw a dinner party for sexy, confused married people on my ravishing beachside deck.

The list presents a few surprises, such as the lack of OG David Bowie, given the name of one of the first-grade protagonists, Ziggy. But there, if you’re looking for more, there’s also a 39-track playlist, updated each week by the show’s creators, available on Spotify and Apple Music.
If you’re looking for a soundtrack to get you through a rough day, trust, this is it.
