Superstar Teen Inventor / 15
Whitney Anderson’s dad used to talk on his cell while driving all the time. So the Prince George, B.C., teen invented an app to prevent exactly that. She had never tried programming before, but for a school science-fair project, she modified an existing app called Tasker so that it would lock a phone when its user was travelling more than 20 kilometres an hour. “I’ve been getting a lot of questions from my friends about when they can download it,” Anderson says. She’s now trying to find a professional who can help her turn the prototype into a stand-alone app. In the meantime, her project has already produced the desired effect: her dad doesn’t take calls in the car anymore.
