It’s no secret that millennial pink is everywhere. Everyone has recently written about the much-discussed dusty rose hue from The Cut (hilariously) to The Guardian (educationally).

But where did it come from and what is it exactly?

Here’s our primer on the colour that’s all the rage.

While different shades of pink have had a prominent place in pop culture for decades (ahem, Barbie pink), this millennial muted pink hue has been making a steady entrance into society over the last few years by way of Glossier (Emily Weiss’s It-girl beauty brand with pastel packaging), Wes Anderson’s pinky paradise film The Grand Budapest Hotel and Drake’s dreamy Views album artwork and “Hotline Bling” video. But it was at the end of 2015 when Pantone announced Rose Quartz as 2016’s Colour of the Year (along with Serenity, a not-so-memorable baby blue) when it really started to take off. Soon after, it was spotted on countless runways, from Gucci to Céline—and basically permeated all aspects of everything.

Also known as “Tumblr pink” or “Scandi pink,” the hue has stirred up a bit of a debate about what the colour actually looks like. According to The Cut, what was initially a pastel pink with a warmer undertone, millennial pink seems to have expanded to now include other variants of the shade from peachy pink to white-pink.

One thing that’s certain: the shade is here to stay.  Scroll through for our wishlist of the top pepto pink pieces you need for spring.
