The menu: A fully licensed café restaurant, Wild Leek serves up vegan comfort food with a focus on seasonal local ingredients. Offerings include fresh pressed juices, green juices, smoothies, healthy bowls, wraps and more.
My go-to: The Wild Bowl with sautéed kale & broccoli, beets, carrots, cabbage, brown rice, toasted sesame, organic tofu and dragon sauce—very filling and so yummy! I like to pair that with the freshly pressed Flu Booster juice (ginger, lemon, orange, celery).
The atmosphere: Cozy seating with local artwork and green accents
Average wait time: Under 20 minutes
Average cost for lunch (meal + beverage): Under $20

Tarek’s Cafe

Where: 3045 Robie St., tarekscafe.ca
The menu: With bold flavours inspired by Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cultures, this home-style take-out joint will have you coming back for more. Think fresh, classic Lebanese and Greek staples.
My go-to: The chicken combo. You really can’t go wrong with chicken skewers, fresh chopped salad, aromatic rice and falafel.
The atmosphere: Friendly and efficient service in an open-kitchen concept
Average wait time: Under 10 minutes
Average cost for lunch (meal + beverage): $20 (cash only)

The menu: A flexible monthly subscription dedicated to healthy eating—they have a range of lunch and dinner plans available with various number of meals per week. Based on your dietary preferences and restrictions, all meals made daily and delivered fresh to your workplace!
My go-to: The lunch box subscription, whihc includes things like salmon cakes on a arugula beet salad and lemongrass beef with lime and cilantro on a rainbow slaw (yum!).
The atmosphere: Lunches are delivered right to you, but if you would like to pickup them up ahead of time instead, you can also do so at their new kitchen location in the north end.
Average wait time: Delivery is between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. daily.
Average cost for lunch (meal + beverage): $13 per day

The Wooden Monkey

The menu: Locally sourced and mostly organic foods favoured by those with dietary restrictions, or those just wanting a healthier alternative. The extensive menu includes dips, salads, soups, rice bowls and a variety of fresh seafood and meat-based entrees.
My go-to: The Vegetable Curry includes a range of veggies, toasted quinoa, raisins, curry coconut, macadamia nut paste, sweet potato curls and cilantro—I top mine off with scallops for a more substantial meal.
The atmosphere: A quirky and warm ambiance with tons of seating and mismatched wooden chairs.
Average wait time: Depending on what you order, it could range from 15 to 30 minutes.
Average cost for lunch (meal + beverage): $25
