Remember the infamous hula-hoop bag at Chanel’s Spring 2013 show? How about those Celine “furkenstock” sandals? Well thanks to the mass amount of photos shared online of the er…interesting accessories they’ll be hitting some stores come spring. According to an article in WWD, retailers are picking up some of spring’s most talked-about items due to their popularity on Instagram.
Fashion lovers around the world took to their Instagram accounts during the major fashion weeks to post runway photos from the Spring 2013 shows. Retailers didn’t just see these as fun snaps to share online. Reps from stores such as Fivestory, Holt Renfrew and Kirna Zabête told WWD that they actually used the social media outlet to predict which runway trends will be popular next season. Pics that received a lot of “likes” are seen with the equivalent for potential buys. Some have even been able to sell (and pre-sell) items via Instagram.
Among the other over-the-top items being stocked by retailers on the strength of social media response include Tom Ford’s knee-high gladiator sandals and cat ear headbands from Maison Michel.
