Recently, Dee Hilfiger—handbag designer, wife to Tommy Hilfiger and legit Fifth Avenue resident—flew to Toronto (via private plane, natch) to visit The Room at Hudson’s Bay for the Canadian launch of her line, Dee Ocleppo. After the trunk show, FLARE tagged along as Dee shopped the latest spring arrivals. “I’m a bit of a chameleon when it comes to how I dress,” Dee says. “My style is feminine but not too classic and not to sexy—I like things that are interesting and a little bit different.” It’s an approach that’s also reflected in her new spring collection of chic, sophisticated bags featuring tropical hues and fun, summery details. “Fashion is a fun way to express yourself and accessories are like the condiments of an outfit,” she says. “They spice things up!”

Read on to see Dee’s top five spring picks from The Room at Hudson’s Bay:

Carven“I spotted this Carven coat earlier—it’s got this sporty chic, classic look to it so I think it would be easy to wear. I’m seeing it as a tennis thing. I could wear it to the US Open or in the Hamptons with white pants or a white dress. It would be a great traveling jacket.”

Erdem“Erdem is half Turkish and half English like me so I feel a connection to him. It’s an odd combination—I don’t think there are many mutts like that around! I love the print on these pants—very fun, tropical, and a little bit mystical. They put me in a happy mood.”

Dee Ocleppo“This Dee Ocleppo bag is so classic and sophisticated—it’s very Audrey Hepburn. But if you snap this cover on you get a totally different look. It becomes a little bit more seasonal for summer. Another thing I love is that all my bags have pink interior. With black you can never find anything. I’ve missed so many phone calls digging through my black bags. Plus, it just makes me happy when I open it up and see a pretty colour. ”

Alaia“I love Alaïa! He usually does a lot of solids but this is so striking. I’d wear this to a fabulous garden party or on a boat. If someone walked into a party wearing this I’d think: Wow, who’s that?!

Zuhair Murad“What’s not to like about Zuhair Murad? This jacket over a long black gown or even a pair of jeans would be very cool. It’s so versatile and fabulous, which I love!”
