Every collection is a collaborative effort. According to the design duo, José Manuel St-Jacques and Simon Bélanger, “We do everything together. There is no real distinction of ‘Who does what?’ It is very organic.”
The designers happily dive into the local talent pool. “We’ve had the privilege of getting support from some of the industry’s finest talents [from accessories powerhouse ALDO to local photography pros Leda & St. Jacques]. UNTTLD is a work in progress that reflects every collaborator who’s joined us in our ongoing adventure.”
Inspiration can come from anywhere, even outer space. “We watch sci-fi movies and documentaries, we listen to ambient/electronic/New Wave music, we talk a lot with our friends. Our collaborators also bring ideas to the table and help shape our designs.”
UNTTLD is on the up and up. After winning one of five finalist spots in last fall’s Mercedes-Benz Start Up competition, the brand will continue to build buzz at the first-ever World Event Young Artists, a global showcase of creative talent taking place in Nottingham, England this September. “We’re also preparing an online store, a collection of basics, and more of our special blend of everyday lux.”
The label is coming to a store near you. “Montreal is where we make things, but the world is our destination.”
