In A Sporty State Of Mind
Vini Lacerda took his version of a varsity woman, introduced in his debut collection last season, into even sportier territory with his SS'14 offering. His women were now dressed all in white instead of black, with slouchy silhouettes in a mixture of patent leathers and perforated fabrics calling to mind P.E. Pinnies, though much more luxe. In addition to playing with texture, Lacerda also experimented with layering, most successfully with sheer on sheer and a skirt with an asymmetric hem over a longer sheer underskirt.
The parade of white was broken up by pops of pylon orange and blue on shirts, skirts and shorts. These colours were also used once apiece as the foundation for smart kaleidescope prints on boxy tees. Rompers were featured prominently, ranging from a short perforated wrap-like style, to a full-length blue jumpsuit that was worn off the shoulder with arms tied under the model’s bust. Playing up the sporty nature of the clothing was dewy skin and slicked-back hair—all in all, it was an exciting second outing by this new designer.
