Ladylike Art Deco
For SS'14, Hilary MacMillan drew on Alphonse Mucha's Le Pater for inspiration, with its juxtaposition of colour inspiring her own play with light and dark as well as layering of textures. Creams, pale blues and lilac silks were featured prominently, alongside floral prints and leathers. There was also an art nouveau/art deco influence, most recognizable in a sheer (oversized) collared shirt and matching mini with a repeating sequined pattern (one of our favourite looks). The black leather added a welcome edge to the collection, and was further enhanced with a stamped pattern by a Toronto artisan. She noted this was the last textile she added to the collection, and it was a stand out. While a few pieces could have been finished more cleanly, this was a strong showing from MacMillan, exactly what she needed for her first presentation at World MasterCard Fashion Week.
