6. Comeback, Baby
After his dismissal from Dior following a very public anti-Semitic tirade in 2011, John Galliano laid low (as in, disappeared off the face of the Earth for two years), and then tested the waters with a toe-in residency at Oscar de la Renta. It seemed all was forgiven when, in late 2014, Galliano was plucked to head up Maison Margiela, a more avant-garde—and decidedly more Galliano-esque—house. His inaugural fall ’15 RTW collection was almost unanimously regarded as worth the wait: his theatrical, couture-like approach delivered a sublime vintage-future smash-up punctuated by skirt suits and major embellishment, confirming that, indeed, the Gal was back in town.
