“I just flew back from business in South Korea,” said the buffalo plaid clad designer Thakoon Panichgul to me a few hours before his fête was in full swing. Yet, as Toronto’s style types trickled in to The Room at The Bay last night, he quickly perked up. The famous Thai/American dressmaker – his flattering fits have graced the likes of Mrs. Obama, Sienna Miller and Marion Cotillard – brought his airy Spring collection to town. His seascape blues, clean slate whites  and liquid sequin snakeskins (so good, you must see to believe) are on our Spring wish list. Oh, and don’t forget Panichgul’s irreverent, far-from-mumsy pearl jewelry for Japanese heritage brand Tasaki to finish the look. The party continued with an intimate dinner for Thakoon’s best clients and friends of The Room over oysters and French bistro fare at Union. After all, anyone who can make metallic reptile print undeniably elegant and the classic pearl necklace an edgy adornment deserves to be celebrated.
