In April’s Canadian Fashion Heroes special, FLARE profiled Calla Haynes and Mark Fast. Since then, their careers have moved at a clip speed. It was just announced that both designers have been nominated for the prestigious ANDAM Fashion Award, beating out 62 other top-tier candidates. The other nominees are France’s Alexandre Vauthier and Bouchra Jarrar, Turkey’s Hakaan Tildirim and Italy’s Francesco Scognamiglio. The contest was founded over twenty years ago by Yves Saint Laurent’s partner and prolific supporter of culture, Pierre Bergé. Vogue Paris‘ Carine Roitfeld is serving as chairwoman, overseeing a panel of judges that includes Lanvin designer Abler Elbaz, The Daily Telegraph’s stalwart fashion director Hilary Alexander and Colette’s Sarah Lerfel. The Hudson’s Bay Company is also serving as an official partner with the award–an exciting part of The Bay’s move to become an international fashion mecca. The winning designer will be announced on June 28th and receive a $300, 000 prize. Fingers Crossed for Team Fast and Haynes. Win or loose, it appears 2010 is turning into the year Canadian fashion took its place on the world stage.
