Flare's Fashion interns get wet n' wild with the best of swimwear

With sun blazing and beach-bodies in check, we thought it high time to have our Fashion interns weigh in on the season’s hottest swim trends. From the starkly minimalist to the uber-luxurious, what remained true across-the-board was a love for statement-making suits. As Lindsey Mather put it: “There is no reason not to dress up at the beach!”. Her pick, an ultra-embellished halter from Anthropologie had the drama to back her claim. Mike Keane, evidently on the same wavelength,  raved about a gem-encrusted bandeaux from La Perla.

For prints, Ryan Cheung’s pick, also from La Perla, ventured into more exotic territory in a playful peacock with sequin trim. Mary D’Cruz fell in love with the Mai Tai Bikini from Zimmerman, a floral number with one-shoulder strap that had practical appeal to boot. She suggests “going bandeaux style to resist those awkward tan lines”. For the more athletic type, Jennifer Martinez stumbled upon a killer scuba-chic one-piece from Cynthia Rowley for Roxy with an “ideal collision of sporty and sexy”.

But it was the nouveau pin-up vibe that won over Cindy Lemus and Melissa Tran, both of whom opted for high-waisted suits from Rachel Pally and Acne, respectively. “The high waist bottom is perfect for curvier women wanting more coverage, but also great for accentuating a smaller waist”. Not that comfort should come at a cost of style, says Tran, who would “pair this retro number with colourful head scarves and big Brigitte Bardotesque hair!”.
