Style Remix: Natalie Portman

How the starlet could elevate her look with a few easy tweaks

Proving that accessories really can make or break an outfit, we present the case of Natalie Portman and her flowering Rodarte frock. A Rodarte regular, the actress is often seen sporting the latest and greatest from the sisterly design duo on the red carpet.  Last week was no exception, and while we’re charmed by the idea of the pink chiffon gown she stepped out in for the Black Swan premiere, we are less enthused with the high school graduation silhouette. Girl-next-door accessories did little to help. Already giving off an overtly sweetie-pie vibe, we would have liked to see this number accompanied by add-ons that made the look more sophisticated and modern. The burgundy clutch, gold mary jane heels, pink ribbon bracelet and dainty drop earrings look dated and juvenile. So what would we do differently? Firstly, switch the shoes for a sculptural pair of knockout heels, perhaps by Rodarte collaborator Nicholas Kirkwood. Although, we must give the actress credit for her commitment to vegan-friendly footwear, we still think she could have done better. Secondly, loose the girly curls. A slicked-back ballet bun with a dark eye would have subtly referenced the film. And lastly, either long fringe earrings or thick cuff bracelets (on each wrist) would add much needed edge to this ensemble.
