Stella McCartney has released images from her Fall Winter 2013 ad campaign starring high fashion faces Suvi Koponen and Chiharu Okunugi on the sunny streets of London and–peculiarly for winter–in a sparkling swimming pool. Working with photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, McCartney took a hands-on approach to the project and styled the shoot herself. The collection continues to prove that faux leather can be rich and luxurious, featuring her much-talked-about (and wait-listed) Beckett handbag. Also present: midi-length skirts, magnified plaid prints and chunky platform shoes with a distinctly ’90s feel. Slicked back wet-look hair and minimalist makeup complete the contemporary campaign.
The juxtaposition between the over-sized winter separates and crystal clear swimming pool feels fresh for a season in which ads usually reflect dark palettes and moods. The luxe plaids and purples pop against the aqua blue waters. One of fashion’s strengths is its ability to wink at savvy consumers and whether intentional or not, the photographs seem to playfully point to the complex and somewhat kooky fashion season scheduling where winter styles are launched in summer and spring collections shown in fall.
