After 17 glorious days in London, the Summer Olympic Games came to a close on Sunday night with a bang. Canada walked away with one gold, five silver and 12 bronze medals, our nation’s top athletes enjoyed an evening of celebration and top British entertainment. From George Michael to a tribute to the late John Lennon, the Brits celebrated in style with over the top performances and a bit of signature humour.
Fashion was not left forgotten as organizers showcased some of the industry’s greatest faces in what looked like the ultimate catwalk. Supermodels Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, Lily Cole, Lily Donaldson, Karen Elson and top faces Jourdan Dunn, Georgia May Jagger and David Gandy, all walked in custom designs from leading UK labels. Even London-based Montreal-born designer Erdem Moralioglu had a moment in the spotlight with his intricate gold lace number, worn by Cole.
Following weeks of rumours and speculation (and even a few leaked images online), the Spice Girls reunited on stage performing two of their greatest hits: Wannabe and Spice Up Your Life. Victoria Beckham (Posh), Melanie B (Scary), Emma Bunton (Baby), Geri Halliwell (Ginger) and Melanie C (Sporty), performed together for the first time since their reunion tour in 2008. Fashion favourite Beckham selected close friend Gile Deacon to design her little black dress which featured a striking train fit for their drive around the area atop the group’s custom cabbies.
