Beyond her enviable gyp-set style, Missoni is also a woman of substance. Witness her latest project: a trio of stuffed animals for Holt Renfrew, arriving in stores this November. Proceeds benefit OrphanAid Africa, an organization providing support for Ghanaian children.
“I’ve been working with OrphanAid Africa for nine years now. Designing the stuffed animals [requires] completely different research than clothes. We don’t give our zigzag to everyone, however in this case we wanted to use the most iconic print.”
On her look: “My shoes are Louis Vuitton, my pants, Missoni, and my cardigan is Dries Van Noten. My handbag is Paco Rabanne and was a gift for my wedding [she married race car driver Eugenio Amos last June]. But you don’t really need a bag on the day! It’s like when people brought me presents on my wedding night and I thought, Are you really giving that to me now? My collar necklace is Louis Vuitton and the fish earrings are old. The pendant necklace is another wedding gift—it says ‘bon voyage.’”
Favourite corner of the world: “Laos. For sure the most chill people on earth. It’s just
If your style were a film: “Alice in Wonderland. It’s very irrational and goes with the flow.”
If you could steal from anyone’s closet: “Not that I would dress like her, but for the pieces she has, I would pick [former Vogue Italia fashion director] Anna Piaggi. She [was] very colourful.”
Collection starting point: “Because we dye our own yarns, the first thing we choose is colours. I always fluctuate towards greens, every type.”
Closet hero: “A Lanvin coat from 1947 that my grandmother bought me from the Clignancourt market in Paris. She said I had to have it so I could remember how beautiful things are made.”
Wine and dine: “Milan’s Latteria San Marco. You can’t reserve and it’s tiny, but by far the best food in the world.”
