It’s Couture Week! A time when the world’s top houses send beautifully-detailed handmade clothes down the runway to sell to a handful of women. This is fashion at its most exquisite.
Yesterday, John Galliano presented the Christian Dior Spring 2011 couture collection, inspired by famed fashion illustrator René Gruau. In this video from The Telegraph, Galliano explains how he recreated Gruau’s brushstrokes using embroidery, and layers of tulle to mimic the play of light across the garments. It’s beautiful just to watch the clothing move as the models walk the runway covered in white makeup, as if they were living illustrations, made of paper. You can’t get this in ready-to-wear, folks.
