If you couldn’t make it to Toronto Fashion Week (or even if you could), there’s another opportunity this week to check out some of Canada’s fresh fashion talent.
On Thursday, April 14, the Toronto Fashion Incubator is hosting their annual New Labels show, which offers up-and-comers the chance to showcase their work and win funds and exposure to help their label succeed. The TFI offers support and resources for up-and-coming member designers, as well as residency opportunities for members to access equipment and studio space. The competition, which started in 1992, has given a boost to past winners and finalists, including Joeffer Caoc, Juma, Ashley Rowe, Diepo and Anastasia Lomonova, the Montreal designer who took the title last year.
Judges include David Dixon, Holt Renfrew’s Natalie Lecomte, former New Labels winner Cynthia Florek, as well as FLARE’s editor-in-chief, Lisa Tant.
The prize is $10,000, as well as the opportunity to design an outfit for Sears. Plus, we’ll be featuring the winner in an upcoming issue of FLARE.
