• MAKE FRIENDS WITH THE SHOP’S OWNERS. They’ll let you know about new arrivals and might let you into their stockroom or set aside pieces for you.
• ALWAYS TRY THE CLOTHES ON. Some garments are not sized or labelled and, typically, there is a no-return policy when it comes to vintage shops. In the past, people generally had smaller body shapes than we do now.
• TAKE CARE. Clothes can deteriorate over time, so when getting dressed, be careful with seams, necklines, zippers and buttons.
• BE CREATIVE. Always remember you can make alterations to items you find, so go through all the sizes that are larger than what you would normally wear to see if any items, fabrics or details, such as unique buttons, are workable.
