One of the worst kept secrets in fashion? What you see on the runway is not what you see in stores. To the frustration of fashionettes and to the delight of more risk averse girls, typically what’s shown on the catwalk never makes it to retail as pieces are distilled into more wearable designs through changes in fabric, cut and other accoutrements.

Enter Louis Vuitton’s floral frock. When the 50s Mad Men-esque collection came out filled with block heels and dirndle-style petticoated skirts cut below the knee, many girls let out a collective “who would wear that?!”.   Katie Holmes answered the call, losing the costumey accents and opting for a shorter length. Donning the dress for Variety’s Power of Women gathering, the style maven masterfully translated this runway gem into a wearable look that we think feels fresh and modern.
