For Fall 2012, Canadian leather goods powerhouse Roots has announced the launch of two new collaborations with top homegrown labels Line Knitwear and Preloved. Heavy knits in multi-blend fabrications with signature Roots details were the focus for their capsule with Line. Open cardigans, mullet-style pullovers and prints that included the iconic beaver were all included in the tightly “knit” 4-piece collection. But this isn’t the first time the two brands joined hands, Line collaborated with the Canadian icon last season but kept it under the radar until now.
Marrying the brand’s signature fleece and iconic cuts, like the zip hoodie and varsity cardigan, Preloved weaved their eco-chic qualities into their debut capsule for Roots with pieces for her and him. With a unified colour palette, Preloved sourced a range of recycled knits that will be used alongside Roots’ favourite fabrics. Think rustic cable knits with old school fleece. Fair isle elbow patches, multi-piece toppers and unexpected trims finished off the covetable new line.
For leather goods, the label focused on all things raw. Exposed seams, unlined interiors and new washes were all featured in the upcoming collection. Capsules featuring leathers from Paris and Italy spoke to the aesthetic of each region. Polished and pebbled hides in lush hues including forest green, rouge and sky blue stood out in the line inspired by Paris (think Hermès with a Canadiana feel), while leathers from Italy had more of a rustic lived-in feel.
Fresh off the slopes from Aspen, designers at the label were looked to the jetsetters who flock North each season for their annual chalet chic getaways. Quilted details (a la Chanel), shearling boots and pops of colour were all spotted in the line that will certainly stand-out against the bold white (and snowy!) backdrop this coming winter season.
