Who is Toronto’s best dressed dog? Last week, designers from Rita Liefhebber and Joeffer Coac to Philip Sparks and Ashley Rowe vied for the title at Paws for the Cause. The event, spearheaded by do-gooders Laura Serra and Paul Smith to benefit the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (OSPCA), paired Toronto media types (The Society‘s Amanda Blakeley and Ashleigh Dempster, Keshia Chanté, Amy Verner, Anna Cyzon) with a pooch dressed to match. I got to participate with a delightfully teeny (sample size!) dog named Cooper in matching gladiator-inspired LBDs by Montreal label Tavan & Mitto. Backstage antics notwithstanding – Coop might have had an accident before hitting the runway – my puppy-on-loan (thank you, Charise Garcia) hammed it up for the cameras. He even licked a few. As Cooper ran off the dogwalk during our finale strut (see picture at left), I followed his lead to the hopping after party. All in all, Paws for the Cause raised over $30 000 for OSPCA. It also sparked many canine modeling careers.
