Formerly known as Orange, Vancouver-raised designer Angela Chen has re-branded her label as OR starting with Spring ’11. She tell us that she “drew inspiration from ethereal creatures, warm winds and Randal Kleiser’s film, The Blue Lagoon. I wanted to emulate the soft textures and muted hues of the Tahitian beach, where each piece is a reflection of my interpretations of romances of yesteryear, tender passion, and dreams. I had just seen the film, The Blue Lagoon, and the young Brooke Shields character, Emmeline instantly became my muse for my Spring/Summer 2010 collection. She’s almost an unearthly creature, from her subtle, yet staggering beauty to her gentle gestures, her girlish innocence was what really captivated me most. I couldn’t stop daydreaming about this Emmeline!”
Look out for “hand-knit yarns, sheer linens, and cotton twill [crafted into] light jackets, draped bottoms and floor-sweeping dresses, all delicately tailored with a touch of fairy-tale femininity making the entire collection wearable for any woman. And for the first time, I’ve experimented with miniature pleating and ombre hand-dying techniques. I felt it necessary to add that touch of dreamy to my collection this season. We’ve all been through so much over the past year, and after a hard year of black, studs and punk rock, I intend to bring optimism to this LGFW with my playful silhouettes, light fabrics, and delicate nature.”
Angela Chen presents her OR Spring ’11 collection on Tuesday, October 19th at 4 pm. Check back the following morning to see the collection and our reviews.
