When I spoke to Kimberley Newport-Mimran, the inimitable designer of Pink Tartan, two weeks ago to interview her for our Toronto Fashion Week video series, she told me that she was inspired by Constance Langdon of American Horror Story as played by Jessica Lange. Her muse this season was a mix of one of television’s most popular characters and Marnie Edgar, of Hitchcock’s Marnie, played by ultimate Hitchcock blonde, Tippi Hedren. Newport-Mimran has been known to take her muses and re-place them into her collection. Last night’s presentation was no different: it was a literal distillation of the blonde femme fatale as seen through a ‘50s-retro lens.
