Milan Fashion Week: Pure Versace

Photography by Anthea Simms

Unfortunately photos are forbidden at Giuseppe Zanotti. Too bad because I’d love to share the oversized block heel suede pumps in earthy brights; lime neon booties; disco sparkle block wedges; jewelled flat sandals and midnight navy velvet flat boots. But then I walk by some bedazzled metallic sneakers and am glad I can’t share. Although I’m sure you’d love to see a pic of the campaign model Anja Rubik in her leopard pattern stiletto boots. Guess you’ll just have to let your imagination fly. Fall will be a great footwear season.

What I’m most looking forward to is tonight’s Versace show at Via Gesu, Gianni’s former home and studio. Opera is blaring as we enter the tented courtyard. But that quickly changes to Prince with a brand new track created for Donatella. What follows is pure Versace–sexy leather suits (cropped jackets with pleated minis), sinuous sheath dresses, belted military coats and lots of snakeskin right down to the peep-toe high-heeled booties. A white croc coat with white fox fur sleeves is breathtaking and the gowns that follow (bondage top with feathered train) are classic Gianni. The finale gown, a silver beaded backless column with a feathered train (worn by model du jour Arizona Muse) needs to be on Oscar’s red carpet pronto. Was it an on-trend show? Not particularly but it was pure Versace and I loved it!
