Toronto Fashion Week: Matthew Gallagher Fall 2013
Newcomer Matthew Gallagher impressed last night with porcelain Grace Kellys walking for his Fall 2013 debut collection. Inspired by Alfred Hitchcock’s To Catch a Thief, Gallagher explained that he was captivated by his recent visit to Monaco, where the film was originally filmed in 1955. He unveiled a modern woman with timeless Hollywood elegance.
Maxi skirts, wide trousers and high collars were popular on the runway as well as floor-length gowns. With a minimal colour palette, drama was emphasized with bold blackberry lips and striking costume jewellery. The final piece, a white floor-length gown, echoed an elegant leading-lady theme. While Gallagher’s debut collection revealed soft femininity, sharp tailoring, sculptural coats and slick vintage updos made for strong accents.
