While a wealth of ideas can be a great asset to any designer, the ability to edit a collection to a focused point is key. Lauren Bagliore’s SS11 show certainly presented a multitude of ideas, but that quantity was ultimately its downfall as many design elements competed for attention in the same garment.

There was every possible element of punk princess – think black and white stripes, gothic lace, asymmetrical hems, draped leather – at times, all in one outfit. The strongest exits were the most simplified, such as the white tulle dress with a solid black foundation layer, and a mid-length sleeveless black shift with gathered panels. The finale, a loose, layered gown in ivory silk and blush pink jacquard, was a sweet note to end on, making a subtle yet strong closing statement.
