In a mad dash across the city to the Direct Energy center at Exhibition Place (where LG fashion week is taking place again this season a million miles away from our office) I made it just in time to catch the first show of the day, Jules Power. Power’s show was light and fun showing cropped sweats similar to those from her F/W collection only this time also incorporating the casual material into shorts and dresses. She kept skirt lengths short and sweet with tiered dresses and skirts in black, yellow and a seaweed green print. Sheer black mesh in long-sleeve tops and tanks gave this sweet collection a sexy edge.
Next up OR by Angela Chen. Inspired by the film The Blue Lagoon Chen transported us to the beach using light linens and cottons to whip up airy creations. Pleating and A-symmetrical layering were key techniques used by Chen to keep the line romantic. Cropped black pants with oversized draped pockets paired with a hand knit sea blue tank was the top look from this collection. Closing the show were two boho style maxi dresses in neutral linen and blue ombre, perfect for a hot summers day or any tropical vacation.
Designer Wesley Badanjak’s focused his spring 2011 “Elemental” collection for LOVAS on his forte for classic tailoring. His sophisticated suiting in many pieces throughout the collection could easily take any working woman from day to night with the help of some fabulous accessories. Inspired by the periodic table of elements, his closing look in cloudy charcoal and black chiffon took on an acid wash effect creating an unexpected take on the traditional gown. Bright punches of lipstick pink, lemon yellow and metallic silver in Badanjak’s cocktail and evening-wear, gave this collection a lively party feel.
