Hello New York! Gosh I’ve missed you. While the first day of New York shows featured strong up and coming labels like Rachel Comey, Cushnie Et Oches and Ruffian, designed by Brian Wolk and Canadian Claude Morais (military jackets and wide leg pants inspired by female litigators of foreign policy took centre stage). The place to be was the Chanel Soho store re-opening. The dramatic fall collection lined the walls – imagine all the tweed, faux fur and glamour you could ask for. Bags upon glorious quilted bags and of course stunning jewelry. But as fabulous as the merchandise was it was hard to compete with the collection stars, supermodels and society beauties. I don’t like to drop names but I can’t resist: Sarah Jessica Parker, glowing and beautiful, in a super stylish outfit you know she probably picked out herself, she in fact took the spotlight from the bevvy of young Hollywood It-girls like Diane Kruger, Leighton Meester, Claire Danes, Rachel Bilson. I was star struck by Shalom Harlow, Angela Lindval, Erin Wasson, Cecilia Dean of Visionaire. And had a chance to catch up with FLARE cover model Chanel Iman. The man of the hour, Karl Lagerfeld even swept in with his usual entourage of Baptiste, Brad and buff body guard. The guest list went on and on and while I could have stayed there all night star gazing, but alas, an early show the next morning forced me to bed.
