Laura Siegel makes the perfect addition to the previous evening’s contingent of diamonds in the rough. Originally from Toronto, Siegel is now in New York just finishing up at Parsons and developing her first ‘seasonless’ collection. “It started as my thesis project,” she told us backstage. A small series of very fashionable and monochromatically earth-toned nomads floated out in various forms of layered leather, jerseys, knits, and embroidered pieces, most notably the embroidered arm warmers. Siegel had several standout pieces, and where to begin? Her leather gathered and draped knee-length jacket was such an interesting way to interprete the textile, the tube dress embroidered with mounds of rope yet still weightless (we checked it out backstage), and the drape-y, heaps of knit worn as an out-of-the-ordinary dress coat.
