Hilary MacMillan Fall 2013
When a new Canadian designer steps onto the scene, we sit up and take notice. Toronto-based designer Hilary MacMillan—who made her runway debut this week—is one such find. Though MacMillan began designing in 2010, her Fall 2013 collection is her first to make an appearance on the catwalk.
“I was inspired by the richness of the colours and fabrics in the Middle Ages particularly with royalty in equestrian dressing," says MacMillan. "I pulled my colour palette from this era particularly the rich reds, and golds seen in uniforms when men gallantly rode in on their horses.”
“[The] colour palette features red, warm camel, black, soft white, a gold and white pattern, a black and copper pattern with bronze detailing. I’m using a diverse selection of fabrics including silks, cottons, and stretch cottons, jersey, wool blends, and leather.” Everything is sourced and made in Canada.
Find MacMillan’s limited Spring 2013 collection at Elle Hardware and Violets and Dahlias in Toronto and The Store Upstairs in Alberta. Prices range from $100-$450.
