Young designers Joseph Altuzarra, Alexander Wang and the Olsen twins have all landed a spot on Forbes magazine’s “30 Under 30: Art and Style” list.
With a 2011 CFDA award under Joseph Altuzarra’s belt, the Olsens in command of a large multi-pronged fashion empire and Wang’s big fashion house appointment, it’s no wonder why the business magazine would name them one of the best and brightest.
Though surprisingly, Wang did not take the number one spot this year even with his new job as Balenciaga’s creative director. Instead, the top honors went to designer Carly Cushnie, one half of Cushnie et Ochs.
Cushnie and her design partner Michelle Ochs have been making waves with their growing celebrity clientele, which include the likes of Jessica Alba, Rihanna and First Lady Michelle Obama. And with their distribution expanding from one high-end retailer (Bergdorf Goodman) to three others (Saks, Neiman Marcus and Harvey Nichols), the little boutique brand has grossed about $2 million in the last year. Not bad for a duo that started a label straight out of design school!
Other art and style honorees include blogger/Man Repeller Leandra Medine, Vladimir Roitfeld (Carine Roitfeld’s art dealer son) and photographer Michael Avedon, the grandson of legendary lensman Richard Avedon.
