If you were too busy doing life things this past week to obsessively track every New York Fashion Week happening like it’s your job, first of all, SHAME. Second, you’re in luck because that actually IS our job and we’re here to help you rectify your fashion week neglect. Here are the 10 things you need to know so you can fake like you were paying attention.
Rihanna won fashion week
Between her frenzy-inducing Fenty Beauty launch and casually taking her Fenty x Puma bow from the back of a motocross bike, everyone’s fave badgal was killing the game all week.
Alexander Wang made party buses cool again
Apparently all you have to do is fill it with the biggest, best, hottest models in the universe and have them immediately strut across the pavement, catwalk style, upon stepping out. Noted. Also doughnuts. And Cardi B.
Kaia Gerber is a runway model now
Speaking of the biggest, best, hottest models, Cindy Crawford spawn Kaia Gerber made her highly-anticipated runway debut. First at Calvin Klein, then Alexander Wang (she was the first off the bus), followed by Fenty, Coach and Marc Jacobs. Bless.
Other ’90s icons’ kids were doing things, too
Kim Gordon’s daughter Coco Gordon walked Eckhaus Latta, Magic Johnson’s daughter Elisa Johnson signed a modelling contract with Wilhelmina, Snoop Dogg’s son Cordell Broadus (above) walked Philipp Plein, Helena Christensen’s son Mingus Reedus walked Calvin Klein and Brooklyn Beckham took some very serious, very moody photos backstage at Victoria Beckham. What does it all mean???
Also, Poppa Snoop happened
Cordell Broadus is great and everything but can we please talk about Poppa Snoop! The fact that he goes by Poppa Snoop? The fact that he doesn’t remember his real name? The fact that he walked Philipp Plein in a croc jacket and joggers?
Shayne Oliver resurrected Helmut Lang and everybody loved it
Think fetishistic millennial club kid with a thing for the ’90s. It was great.
Mansur Gavriel launched ready-to-wear and it’s already selling out
The see-now, buy-now collection of minimal opera coats, oversized sweaters, fancy puffers and whimsical prints has everyone weeping into their bucket bags because there’s almost nothing left on Net-a-Porter.
Gigi Hadid lost a shoe at Anna Sui and Bella helped her
Fanny packs are chic now
The models at Marc Jacobs cinched their oversized suits and parkas with sporty fannies and it’s all we’re living for!!
The runways were decently diverse this season
As more established NYC brands decamp to Paris, younger brands like Chromat, Christian Siriano and Eckhaus Latta are boosting not only the creativity factor in NYC, but the diversity factor as well, casting models of different size, shape, ethnicity and gender identity. Yay youth!
