This past June, we named British footwear designer Sophia Webster one of Five Female Designers on the Verge of A Break Out, and we’re glad to see that our forecasting abilities have been verified. The Sophia Webster for J. Crew collaboration debuted at New York Fashion Week today, further solidifying the classic-prep brand as a modern woman’s go-to brand. The addition of Webster, who worked for two years under her now-mentor Nicholas Kirkwood, brings extra fashion-forward cred to the Crew. Her namesake collection launched during the Resort 2013 season and has since been an international sensation with her shoes and clutches brightening store shelves from New York to Dubai to Toronto’s Hudson’s Bay, where her collection is now available at their ground floor shoe boutique (the largest in Canada!).
The collection includes 30 pairs of Webster’s most popular silhouettes in vibrant taffetas and neons with unique tassels and embroidery. The fancy footwear will be available at select J. Crew stores and jcrew.com in 2014. Webster’s shoes are eccentric, but (lucky for us fans) her own distinct design sensibilities were not lost during the collaboration process. “The collection is really fun and feminine, very me but still a hybrid of the two brands,” says Webster. Jenna Lyons, President and Executive Creative Director of J. Crew, raved about the designer, “Sophia Webster is one of the most exciting and talented British designers. Her shoes are like miniature sets–a beautiful world for your feet to spend the day in.”
My favourite pairs (slash will be in my closet the first day they are in store) are the white and gold leather cut-out with gold beads hanging off bows and the orange and pink hibiscus patterned stilettos.
