It’s a longgggg and lonesome road to finding the perfect pair of jeans. The style that fits your BFF most likely won’t fit you as snugly, and vice versa. But there are three new jeans brands that claim to have created the ultimate perfect-fitting pants for *all* women. Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants IRL or too good to be true? We break down their claims below.
The claim: “Miaou Jeans hug every woman the same; all shapes and sizes,” says Alexia Elkaim, a vintage collector turned designer, who grew up working for her stepfather, Serge Azria—the man behind brands Joie and Current/Elliott. She was inspired by a pair of jeans she picked up at a thrift store in Paris, and started experimenting on her friends with different cuts. “I like to think of them as jeans for girls who wear dresses, because of the feminine style. They’re practically made for hourglass figures, and yet they’re somehow curve-enhancing for those who are less curvy.”
The look: Every pair of Miaou jeans and pants come with signature oversized grommets in the waistband, with rope, ribbon or chain woven through. The look is supposed to be far more flattering and comfortable. Plus, depending on which you chose, it can look retro or rock chick.
The verdict: Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner and plus-size models Paloma Elsesser and Yasmin Moon have all been spotted wearing Miaou’s classic Brigitte jeans recently, and they look amazing on all of them.
The price: $354
The claim: Last year, fashion website Revolve launched its own brand of denim. “Inspiration for Grlfrnd comes from the never-ending hunt for vintage denim with your girlfriends,” says Chief Brand Officer Raissa Gerona. “Even when you think you have found a great pair, it’s never the perfect fit and that’s exactly what Grlfrnd is—the perfect wash, the perfect fit and your perfect companion. The more you wear them, the better they get.”
The look: There are ten styles on offer, each named after a top model such as Naomi, Cindy and Kendall. They include straight leg, flared, skinny, cropped, petite, high-rise and mid-rise cuts. There are also a variety of classic washes, from light stonewash to black.
The verdict: Judging from early adopters of the brand, these jeans certainly look like they fit like a glove.
The price: From $246
The claim: “If you go to any department store and go into the premium denim section, there is nothing above a size 8 or 10, if you’re lucky,” says Emma Grede, chief executive of celebrity marketing firm ITB, who launched denim line Good American with Khloe Kardashian late last year. It’s this realization that sparked the duo to create the “denim focused fashion brand designed for a curvier, sexier and stronger shape.” Grede adds,“We believe everybody deserves to be shown off. Fashion should be made to fit women, not the other way around.”
The look: Among the classic styles are fashion-forward jeans with lace-up details, frayed hems and blown-out holes, in sizes 0 to 24.
The verdict: The Kardashians tend to turn anything they touch into gold and Good American is no exception. Sales reached $1 million on the brand’s first day, making it the biggest denim launch in apparel history. The reviews have been mixed: some say they are the most comfortable and well-fitting jeans they’ve ever worn, while others say they fit snugly on the hips but are too big at the waist.
The price: From $190
