On Monday May 2, the Metropolitan Museum of Art will host the Met Gala in honour of Alexander McQueen’s new retrospective, Savage Beauty. Often considered the Oscars of fashion, the red carpet event will be filled with a who’s who of fashion, entertainment and high society. Last year, the gala brought out a flurry of memorable styles including Katy Perry’s light up dress, Diane Kruger’s sleek white gown by Calvin Klein and M.I.A.’s gold mesh ensemble.
To celebrate the life of McQueen and his revolutionary designs, the Met has created a limited edition book looking back at his most pivotal works, including his Plato’s Atlantis-inspired collection and his many tributes to the late Isabella Blow. Behind the haunting hologram cover, fashion writer Tim Blanks interviews Sarah Burton, creative director of the Alexander McQueen label, to understand the reclusive designer and the time she spent as his confidant.
