Dreams really do come true.
14-year-old Hiba Allam has a dream and with a little help from Canadian designer Richard Robinson and MTV Canada’s Aliya-Jasmine Sovani her wish will be granted for all to see at this year’s 2012 MuchMusic Awards in Toronto. “I’ve been on the hunt for a dress for a while and out of nowhere, I got a call from my friend at the Children’s Wish Foundation– I’ve worked with them before. They had a young girl, who’s a big fan of MTV, who had just been admitted into palliative care, which is not a wonderful place to be,” shared Sovani on helping Allam, who has acute myeloid leukaemia, with her red carpet wish. “Hiba’s always dreamt of becoming a designer to the stars, and so through the Children’s Wish Foundation, we’re going to turn one of her sketches into a reality with help from Richard Robinson.”
The moment Sovani heard word of the opportunity she booked a trip to Ottawa to meet with Allam at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario. There the two instantly clicked and all eyes were on Hiba’s red carpet designs: “I looked through her design book and she has a ton of beautiful drawings of different dresses. We went through and decided which one would be best for me, and I narrowed it down to my three favourites.” After a few minor tweaks, the duo signed off on a short and flirty frock in a bold amethyst hue with sequin detailing. But that’s not all. Sovani has invited Allam to be her date at the MMVAs dress rehearsal where she’ll meet all the stars before the big night. Plus, Robinson will bring to life another design just for Allam’s big day in Toronto. Now that’s a Project Runway-worthy surprise!
“Her energy’s magnetic. This girl is going through so many obstacles and it’s not just having a bad day at work, it’s a force to be reckoned with–and she’s 14 years old,” shared Sovani, who is just about to grant one out of over 1,000 wishes which are expected to come true this year through the Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada and its generous donors.
As we near the big night, rumours are swirling that there will be a major duet between two top artists–Sovani gives us her best guess: “If it was Justin Bieber and Katy Perry, that would be awesome! That would be my dream collaboration.” But perhaps there will be another at the after parties: “I’m really looking forward to seeing Kelly Clarkson perform. I met her earlier this year and she was so fun. During our chat we talked about how we both love to karaoke to rap songs so I’m hoping that at some point at one of the after-parties we end up at a karaoke bar and Kelly Clarkson and I can throw it down to 99 Problems!”
