Despite the slick weather, friends and fans of the thick-framed designer descended upon the Old Port destination in droves. First order of the evening? Head straight downstairs to discover the atelier/boutique, where Gagnon’s threaded and striped designs hang like art displays amid a massive fringed curtain and sleek stone walls. Meanwhile, guests mingled over champagne glasses in the upstairs art gallery, adjacent to the hip Petit Hôtel.
Some with high hopes say Old Montreal is slated to become the Soho of the north. Whether or not you subscribe to that theory, one thing is for sure: the presence of one of Montreal fashion’s finest certainly gives the ‘hood one haute step up.
Boutique Denis Gagnon, 170B St-Paul St. W., Montreal.
