Did you know that H&M made custom evening gowns? If you’re campaigning for an Academy Award, apparently they do. Michelle Williams, hot on the Oscar trail, attended the BAFTA awards in London last night clad in a one-off frock by the Swedish fast-fashion house.
The strapless ivory and black dress with a floral accent at the waist was elegant and Williams pulled it together with stunning styling: a simple diamond choker and an Olympia Le-Tan book clutch. (The My Week With Marilyn star chose The Misfits by Arthur Miller, who was once married to Monroe.) The black nail polish and dark red lipstick deepen the drama.
This is the last major red carpet event before the Oscars in two weeks. Pulling a dress, even a “bespoke” one, a cheap-chic chain, rather than an expected high-fashion label, is a headline making choice for Williams. It’s just another way to keep all eyes on her.
